Hello you brilliant bookworms! It’s the last day of the month and to many people that would just mean it’s the last day of the month but to us book bloggers it means monthly wrap up post! and OH MY GAWD SO MANY WRAP UP AND HAUL POSTS AND SO LITTLE TIME! . By the way this is going to be a long post so I suggest you get some popcorn!
I read a total of 9 books which isn’t bad and it’s 3 more then February which is very weird as I was in a reading slump for around a week. I guess I can thank the two short stories and manga I read this month! Anyway, onto the books I somehow read.
I managed to read all of the books on my TBR except for two, which I think is pretty great and I managed to read some books that I was suppose to get to in February.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald– 4/5 (My Review)
I read The Great Gatsby for my Classics Challenge 2016. Another solid classic and I enjoyed being transported into the glittering (if not dark) world of 1920’s America. As I said in my review so more character arcs would of been great and I think some of the characters needed to be ‘alive more’ but I did really enjoy it!
The Opening Bell by J.B Garner– 3.75 (My Review)
The Opening Bell is about a rookie boxer Leilana as she navigates the action packed, but dangerous, world of boxing. I was given this book from the author and this was a very nice read and I loved all of the different character storylines and how they all joined up. Though it wasn’t perfect, it was still an enjoyable read.
Tokyo Ghoul- Volume 1 by Sui Ishida– 5/5 (My Review)
I finished the anime early this month so I decided to start on the manga straight away. The manga is making me love it even more! The artwork is so awesome and so of the lines in the manga are just so beautifully tragic. I think everyone should read it!
Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell– 4.5/5 (My Review)
I really enjoyed Kindred Spirits even though it was such a short novel! I could really relate to the main characters as she is a major fangirl and this story isn’t about loving Star Wars. but about being fandom and that mixed with Rowell’s cozy writing, it is a lovely, quick read.
Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton– 4/5 (My Review)
I did really like this book, but I think I was being a bit cynical while reading it and being more sharp eyed to some problems I had with the novel. The protagonist was sometimes annoying but on the whole I did like her and though this book could of been wrapped up into one, I am excited for the next book to come out.
Me Before You by Jojo MoyesMe Before You by Jojo Moyes– 4.75/5 (My Review)
I didn’t cry while reading Me Before You but it did break my heart. Lou and Will were so lovely to read about and even though I am normally meh about love stories, this one was more then a love story which is why I liked it so much. I do recommend this book to everybody and I just cannot wait for the movie to come out-the trailer already looks so heartbreaking.
Harper and the Sea of Secrets by Cerrie Burnell– 3.5/5 (My Review)
This book definitely wasn’t for a person of my age, but I did enjoy this fantastical story of a girl who is trying to save The Songs of the Sea festival. Harper and her friends were curious and enjoyable to read about and the illustrations in the short book were lovely and detailed.
Scarlet by Marissa Meyer– 4.5/5 (My Review)
This book was a huge step up from Cinder for me and really anchored me into the fantasy world Marissa Meyer created. Though I believe that the character Scarlet could of been developed more and the pacing was slightly off sometimes, the plot was seriously engaging and I need Cress right now!
Heir of Fire by Sarah.J Maas– 4.25 (My Review)
This book was my least favourite out of the first three books of the series. Though I did like the plot, characters and the writing was as top notch as always, the pacing was so slooooow. Everything just took too long in my opinion and at least 100 pages could of been cut out. The ending really saved because DAMN that was some ending.
All done! Those are all of the books I managed to read during March!

My two favourite novels of the month will have too be…
I think rating wise and feeling wise Me Before You by Jojo Moyes and Tokyo Ghoul by Sui Ishida just knocked it out of the ball park. Both of these novels made me feel something and while one is a ‘proper’ book and the other is a graphic novel they both translated the story very well and I love their main protagonists!
Guess who’s actually posting regularly on Instagram? This guy! My consistency on instagram has always been quite dodgy but I think by the end of March I kind of curbed that habit. Here are some of my favourite pictures from my account anyway!
It is always nice to know a bit about the blogger behind the blog so I’m just going to ramble on about my life now!
So you guys- I totally suck at French. I’m not joking. I have a speaking assessment soon and I honestly think I’m going to fail. French just isn’t my thing and I can’t do the accent or anything. My teacher recorded herself reading out what I need to memorise but it’s so hard. I think I just need to spend a day just listening to that recording over and over again to get it. If you have any tips about remembering long passages of text then please tell me because I’m dying!
Also I am very active on Twitter now! I think I’ve just fallen in love with the social media again along with Instagram. I guess I just love knowing what everyone is thinking right there and then. My twitter is @astrangersguide if you want to follow me! Some YA authors on twitter can be so funny as well and I participate in a thing called #ukyachat which happens every Friday on twitter and you can talk to other bookworms about the specific topic it’s really fun and I encourage everyone, especially any British bookworms, to join in too!
That is all! Gosh that was a long post! Sorry if it was too long, but I just wanted the monthly wrap-ups to be more about reading now.
What books did you read in March? What do you think of the books I read in March? What were your favourite books in March? Comment below and let’s chat!
I’ll write soon!

I want to read both Tokyo Ghoul and Me Before You! They sound so good. Glad you enjoyed them 😀 I really liked your wrap up post btw! Sadly, I can’t help you with remembering long passages as I suck at remembering things. Good luck though. 🙂 (Decided to reply on here instead of Twitter because of the stupid character limit haha)

I love and hate the character limit on Twitter!
I kind of knew that I was going to love Tokyo Ghoul but Me Before You was such a surprise as I don’t really read pure romance novels!
That’s okay! I think it’s might just be a practice thing and I have to dedicate time to it. Thank you, I’ll need all the luck I can get!

I just hate it haha! I can never fit in everything I want to say. Same here, that is why I’ve been putting it off but there is so much hype for it. I’ll have to give it ago soon!
Yeah, I think so. You kind of just have to keep going over it, over and over again until you remember. That’s ok 🙂

Me Before You is a romance novel but it is so much more as well! I hope it lives up to the hype for you!
That’s what my French teacher said and it’s worked for like the first paragraph but for two pages…I’ll be fine (somehow)!

Thanks 🙂 I’ve seen a lot of people say that they aren’t into romance novels but loved Me Before You!
Two pages of French is a lot to remember! That sucks. I hope you remember you it all! Good luck 🙂

You really don’t have to to be into romance, which is why I was so surprised with it!
Thanks! All I can do is practice now.

What a fun and busy month you had. Yay, I just followed you on Twitter, and I totally want to check out #ukyachat. I’m seeing Rebel of the Sands mentioned in a ton of book blogs today. Interesting…so you didn’t love it? While I LOVE F. Scott Fitzgerald’s writing style, I totally get what you mean about the characters needing to be more alive. As for Instagram, I finally started using it this week–though I’m reluctant to post any of my bad photos yet. Hey, I liked your book pics, especially the one of Scarlett. It’s so pretty.

Followed you back! And please do, it’s such a fun discussion to be a part of!
No I didn’t really love it but I did like. I’m hoping the sequel will do more for me.
I’m seeing a lot of F. Scott Fitzgerald love when I mention it to people. He has other novels doesn’t he? I think I might have to check one of them out.
Hahaha I think all of my photos were bad when I started, I think it just takes some time. I still think some of my photos are bad compared to other bookstagrammers! Thank you anyway!
Thank you for reading my extraordinarily long post 🙂

Oh I loved Scarlet, I’m glad you liked it as well. Also Rebel of the Sands and Heir of Fire were pretty good but yeah there were things I wasn’t too keen on; both seemed to start off too slow and the action didn’t really seem to kick in until too late in the novel.
I have Me Before You on my to-read list, I’m glad you enjoyed it so much. I may need to pick it up a little sooner now!

That is true observation of both Heir of Fire and Rebel of the Sands actually. And I am hoping that both of their sequels are better!
Me Before You is such a great book! I kind of got pushed to read it because the trailer came out but I’m so happy I did!

Well I can definitely guarantee Queen of Shadows is better than Heir of Fire, and I have high hopes for the second Rebel of the Sands book.
I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I’m glad you enjoyed it as well, hopefully I’ll get around to it before long 😀

There really was nothing to fault about Me Before You. The writing was just so easy to read and the characters so lovely. I just really enjoyed it!

I don’t usually like love stories as well but I did love Me Before You and so glad you did as well, I did cry because I get really emotional. As for the ToG series my least favorite was the second, I totally understand what you felt with that ending and can’t wait for you to read QoS so I can read your thoughts on it.
I love your pictures! ♥

It seems like that’s the consensus with Me Before You and it makes me genuinely smile!
Hahahaha the second was like my favourite out of the three I’ve read so far. I’m curious to know why you didn’t like it. I am going to be picking up QoS very soon but gosh I’ve seen it in bookstore and it’s a BRICK!
Thank you! 😀

Honestly I don’t even remember, I think it had to do a lot with Chaol, and I didn’t like Nehemia and Aelin having so many secrets, it hurted me. It’s an amazing book and I’m sure you wont even notice the lenght once you are deep in it. 🙂

You had a great time! Me Before You is one of my favourite stand alone books, I’m happy to see that you enjoyed it! I hope you can read Queen of Shadows too! 😀
Hope you have a great April! 😀

Me Before You was such a great surprise for me! Oh and it actually has a sequel, I think it’s called After You or something but I don’t think I’m going to read it though as the reviews are kind of mixed.
I hope I like it too!
Have a great April as well! 😊🙌

Yes, After You has been in my TBR for a while but I’m not sure, many people say that is not as good as Me Before You, maybe one day I read it! Thank you! 🙂

Yeah I’m just going to act like Me Before You was a standalone because of that XD You’re welcome?

The trailer makes me so excited for the movie. The casting is brilliant by the looks of it and the story looks just as heart breaking as the book!

My French teacher says it’s my pronunciation and accent so there’s not much for you to do but pray for me every night so I that I don’t die of stress and nervousness!

Heir of fire is sitting on my shelf getting so angry at I haven’t read it yet! I am almost 3 books behind and I need to fix that asap!

YES, PLEASE JOIN! Even though it was really hyped, it did live up to the hype. I haven’t seen a truly negative review on it yet!
Heir of Fire is such a brick, I recommend you make sure you have enough spare time to finish it all at once 🙂
There’s time! Don’t worry!

Hahaha we had at least one book in common this month! YAY, it’s something! But no, seriously! I love The Great Gatsby and Kindred Spirits and I NEED to read Me Before You and why is The Rebel of the Sands just EVERYWHERE? Too many books to read, not enough time to do so.

YAY, one book is better than no books!
YES YOU DO NEED TO READ ME BEFORE YOU. Though I didn’t cry while reading it, it was still so heart breaking and the writing was as good as Rainbow Rowell’s (no exaggeration).
I know right! I mean I know I’m contributing to The Rebel of the Sands visibility but I didn’t know that the books was such an anticipated read for so many people.
The story of my life Kat, the story of my life.
