I’m Wittier In Writing- Chapter 6: My Muse’s Music!

Hello everyone! It’s May! LET’S JEJOICE THAT IT’S ALMOST SUMMER (not that it would mean much in the UK anyway hahaha)!  It’s a new month, which means a clean reading slate, but also a clear writing slate! I’ am determined to keep my writing top priority along with reading but WHERE IS THE TIME?

For anybody who don’t know, I’m Wittier In Writing is a post fortnightly meme created by me, Astra, so that I could share my trials and tribulations that might have happened over the past two weeks connected to my writings. I just this might be a good place to express my feelings over my writing experience and hopefully these might be a little bit relatable.

Here are my past ‘chapters’ if you want to check them out:

Chapter 1: Suffocation, Frustration and Inspiration?

Chapter 2: Poems and Plagarism

Chapter 3: Fifteen Minuets of Not Procrastinating

Chapter 4: Outlining + Pinterest= Drake Dancing GIF

Chapter 5: Adult Fiction…But I’m a Teen!

So today I’m going to be sharing my Muse’s Playlist! Now that is probably self explanatory but basically my Muse’s Playlist is a list of songs that I listen to when I want to get into the mood to write or get excited over my ideas. Now loads of writers pick epic, atmospheric songs or just instrumental songs in general. I am not really like that! I listen to songs scene based. So one song can just be for an argument that happens in that scene or just captures the feelings in that scene. I don’t know if that makes sense but I hope so!

Here are just a couple of songs which just get me in the mood of writing (and dancing!).

1) Keane- Everybody’s Changing

-I just use this song when I want to focus on character development and characterisation (are they the same thing??? I don’t think so…)

Get Scared- Sarcasm

-I use this song when my characters are being angsty teenagers, which is so fun to write and imagine!

3) All Time Low- Cinderblock Garden

-Cinderblock Garden is great when you are thinking of a lovely, fluffy scene (which there is barely any of in my main WIP which is sad 😦 )

4) Mayday Parade- Anywhere But Here

-This is again for all my angsty teenage characters again.

5) Melanie Martinez- Mad Hatter

-This one is for a specific character in my story, who is a bit cuckoo.

6) Sonic The Hedge Hog- Green Hill Zone

-This is like my golden track hahahaha! It get’s me SO energised to write and I can kind of imagine my action scenes being really badass when I listen to it.

7) Panic! At The Disco- LA Devotee

-I lovely exposition song I think! And it’s P!ATD so it always helps to get my creative juices flowing.

Another topic I want to bring up is self help books, more specifically, writing self help books! So, what do you think about them? Me honestly can not give a toss about them. I can see why people my want them and it’s great to have a book to help you through the writing process, but I just feel off about them. I guess I want to say at the end of the whole writing process, I want to say confidently, that I did this by myself! Not saying anyone else who uses self help books can’t say that, but I’m just really weird like that.

Then again, I am always open to new ideas (even though my bright writing group idea went down the drain…) so if you use self help writing books then feel free to recommend some to me down below so that I can check them out.

One last thing, how do you keep all your ideas and inspiration? For example I use Pinterest to keep all of my ‘inspirations’ in one place, but before I got a notebook, which was SATURDAY, I just kept my idea in my head, sometimes jotting it down on a random piece of paper and maybe on a word document, but not always. I guess that’s pretty dumb not that I think about it, but I now have a boring black notebook dedicated to writing!

That is all today! I know today’s post was less about my writing projects but that’s because there really isn’t anything to talk about hahaha! I mean everything is just going smoothly, so there’s nothing to report on!

I’ll write soon!

A self help book stopped my cousin from committing suicide. I will always support them even though, earlier, i though they were garbage. It also helped me protect myself a lot of times. (The Gift Of Fear).

I’ve never really read a self-help book, and honestly I don’t know anyone who has but I guess people react to these things in different ways (if that makes sense!)
I love your playlist as well. I don’t tend to listen to music when I write, I normally have an old episode of my one of my favourite TV programs on in the background instead 😀 I love the Everybody’s Changing song by Keane, I can completely see why you use it for characterisation!
Also I do have a Pinterest accouint but I don’t use it much. I normally just keep a notebook on my for writing notes to myself for inspiration when it comes to writing or blogging!

That makes complete sense! Not everyone is going to take to everything!
Ooooh really? I’ve never really considered putting on an old tv programme on. I don’t know if that’s less or more distracting hahaha!
Yes, Everybody’s Changing is a tuuuuuune!
That’s a good way to keep all of your notes! And you don’t need an internet connection!

I never really crate playlists for music and even if I do I end up stopping writing or whatever else I’m doing to skip past tracks if I’m not in the mood to listen to them. Putting on old episodes of my favourite TV shows means I have background noise, which honestly I need, but I’m not distracted because I already know what’s happening!
I love how you have specific tunes for writing specific parts or aspects of your stories.
Yes, especially useful because my internet connection is not the most reliable 🙂
