Hey guys! It’s Tuesday so you know the drill. I like this topic very much as I can see other people’s post and use them as a guide for when I’m buying books (which should be happening soon).
The topic for you those of you who don’t know is, ‘Ten Books To Read If You Are In The Mood For X’ and I chose epic stories, because I realised that I don’t read from one specific genre a lot, but there are so stories, despite genre, who have some really epic and page turning plots so I want to kind of recommend them to you. When I talk about ‘epic’ I don’t mean epic fantasy or anything like that really. Just books that take awesome to a whole new level. And YES to the non-tbr-top-ten-tueday-post!
As always, in no particular order here is my list!
1) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
This book was one of my favourites of 2015 and whenever I get the opportunity to gush about it I will! This story is really plot-twisty and epic and the format of the book makes the book even better I think as you can never really get anything straight forward. Most things are in black and white with little to no emotion in the files which makes what happens in this book more hard and cold.
2) The Queen Of The Tearling by Erika Johansen
Even though some may say that the series is a little slow for them, I definitely think that The Queen of The Tearling is an epic book. It can be very political but never boring and it is very much a page turner in my eyes. The elements of fanatasy are done really well as well.
Just finished by trilogy and I can’t stop talking about it! This first book shocked me and pulled me out of my comfort zone with all of the gore and murder and betrayal. And I loved it. I really liked how this book just wasn’t about the killings but about the politics that go with it. A really great and epic book here.
4) Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Ugh this book was just the best. A heist with fantasy elements? Everyone needs to read this book. Bardugo wasn’t afraid to put the characters into tricky situations and the are in the trickiest of situations at the end of the book I can tell you that. This book was an never-ending adventures.
5) Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
I am going to be reading the third book of this series and I honestly cannot wait! The series so far has been full of thrills and kills and I just hope Celaena becomes even more badass in Heir of Fire. But for now, you can count on this book being very epic and very addicting.
6) The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
You are probably wondering why the hell the book thief is on here, well I didn’t say epic on had to be what was physically in the books (if that makes sense) but this book was emotinally epic. I will never forget the way I cried during and after reading this book.
I know this series isn’t everyone’s favourites, but I really liked it! For me at the time everything was really suspensful and very dark. I would call this series epic even if many people wouldn’t. When I think about the Furies still they give me the creeps.
8) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I would say this is an epic trilogy. There are loads of amazing moments in this trilogy, which is one of my favourites. I think the character arc that Katniss goes through is nicely told and I guess this was the book that made rebellions great again in the YA community. A great read of your looking for something a tiny bit twisted and massively actioney- I know that isn’t a word but it really should be.
Another trilogy I know, but this trilogy has such a special place in my heart. It paranormal and fantastic! I never got tired of these books and they are absolutely epic! I like how angels and devils and the rest were handled and they weren’t annoying. Oh and I actually like this love triangle a lot- this is probably why I can’t hate love triangles out-rightly.
10) An Ember In The Ashes by Sabba Tahir
Even though the romance in this book was not to my taste at all, the action and the writing was brilliant! Tahir really built a fantasy world which I adored to read about. The book is epic, awesome and one you should read. The plot took some unexpected twists and turns and made me feel something for the characters after only a short amount of time.
Top Ten Tuesday done! Comment below about what you think about the books I would recommend for an epic read and put what book you would also put in this category!
I’ll write soon!

Totally agree about how The Book Thief is emotionally epic! 😭
Also I’ve heard so many good things about Illuminae, I don’t think anyone has ever wrote a bad review of it. Makes me wanna read the book soon

I still have to read Six of Crows, An Ember in the Ashes and The Queen of the Tearling. I definitely agree with Throne of Glass and I love The Hunger Games too. Maybe the Falling Kingdom series is an option too 🙂

Oh the shame- I haven’t read the Falling Kingdoms series. Awful, I know but the inner snob in me wants to get the series in beautiful hardback!
Hahahaha all of the books you mentioned are ending their respective series this year so you can marathon!

Ohhh yes! I didn’t know they will be duologies but now that you mention it that’s a great idea!
I hope you like the Falling Kingdoms books, they are definitely beautiful and I understand why you are waiting for them!

Ah, I love An Ember in the Ashes! I’m okay with the romance and waiting for the next book to decide who I root for more, haha. Hope we get Helene as a POV character though; I really loved her. ❤

Hahahaha I think I’m on team Helene! It would be so good to have her POV. I don’t think having both of the same POVs would be beneficial.

I’ve yet to finish the Red Rising trilogy but heck, I loved the first book. It was definitively epic and I’ve heard it gets better with each book?
I still need to read Six of Crows! It is everywhere; I need to get on the hype train. 😅
